Gta 5 More News About Sucess

in 1997 a legacy were began a very small unassuming game about hijacking Ferraris and killing innocent pedestrians a game called grand theft auto in contrast to its offensive subject material at first glance the original GTA is really quite bland it's got your top-down satellite view some fairly crummy controls and an indefinable main lead who looks like every other pixelated character on the screen while novel in concept and really quite fun the fast-food quality execution evidence and its visuals and the overly shaky camera made Grand Theft Auto only moderately successful as was its follow-up a very similar style game in the form of GTA 2 but what was iconic to the two games would be carried on and evolved into some very special stuff the incessant violence and the open sandbox gameplay especially the violence taught me but Bob you people are not very fucking nice [Music] [Music] the Grand Theft Auto series has been understandably banned in many areas of the world Thailand Japan Malaysia South Korea and of course Australia would all ban the GTA series games in some form or another it's subject material is often grotesque offensive and unacceptable among sensitive social circles but that's what everyone else just loves about grand theft auto it's the freedom the games give themselves from taking realistic looks into the hard questions that many games don't want to answer in fact the hard things that many politicians leaders and public figures dare not play with how do you justify taking advantage of prostitute or gunning down innocent people on the side of the road are those victims pixels on the screen or maybe something more before to accept the word immersion as a gameplay descriptor those hookers and people getting shot down may as well be real to some people in this instance Grand Theft Auto needs to do some explaining when Trevor stomps the life out of Johnny or when looking back at the now infamous torture scene in Grand Theft Auto 5 they are depictions of violence that was shocked even the likes of Ted Bundy and that's to say nothing of the very colorful illustrations of drug trafficking sex and harassment or how about kidnapping it's all there and how about that misogynistic treatment of women in the series yes it's so big all the female characters have been getting better and better over the years many of them are stereotypes to be seen laughed at fucked with fucked fucking put up with or simply killed because of how society viewed male dominance during the time periods of many of our favourite GTA games is it any surprise that many females and Grand Theft Auto games get treated horribly by males or worse meet their ends violently when Molly Schultz is the one sucked up into the plane and chopped and burnt to a crisp during this scene its violent but boy oh boy is it cool the disturbing themes that GTA games harbour often get brushed aside because of how well-made and daring the recent games have become they shy away from nothing materialism social status and Welfare poverty murder torture xenophobia to name only a few how often does a game allow such subject matter to be experienced by a video game player in an era replete with like-minded linear games the GTA franchise has always let you experience that subject matter openly when gta3 came around in 2001 and took the series 3d it meant that these issues could be explored deeper and at the will of the player the intimacy offered with a three-dimensional camera got us quite literally up close and personal with all of it one of the most shocking memories I had from gta3 was the depiction of hookers I'm a hired killer and I pay for sex my mother would be ashamed prostitutes were no longer anonymous 2d figures from a bird's-eye camera okay jumpin Street corners were covered with them scantily clad and willing to jump into your car and bounce it up and down and up and down and up and down till you had your fill all for a few bucks and all the while a vast open world was moving around you Grand Theft Auto modernized this open-world format combining a cell phone and a GPS mapping system with a follow-me quest arrow allowed players to choose their own adventure just as many of us would go on to ignore those texts those phone calls used to supply the narrative direction in favor of just stealing a car cranking up our favorite tunes on the radio and doing whatever the hell we wanted because we could [Music] the technical design of GTA games allows us to happen seamlessly it's a blueprint of giving the player just enough of a reason to care about the main story yet always providing enough distraction inside content to keep the player bouncing back and forth it's a formula that has been repeated often yet failed more often games like Sleeping Dogs Saints Row and even a Mafia to some extent have tried to mimic the success of GTA but never have come close fast-forward to 2015 and GTA 5 is in no need of introduction as of May this year Grand Theft Auto 5 has sold 80 million copies GTA 5 was a standout game and a cult classic with an amazing single-player campaign and one of the biggest most detailed cities ever seen in gaming and not without innovation either GTA 5 pioneered a three character swapping system that wiggled its way naturally into the fast travel mechanics and the main story it's the highest-grossing game in dollars to ever be released there have only been three games that have outsold it Wii Sports minecraft and Tetris but since you can pick up those games for next to nothing GTA 5 takes the top spot as the most successful video game of all time easily justifying its over 250 million dollar development budget it's multiplayer add in GTA online however is the bigger story here GTA online generated a record-high 500 million dollars in gross revenue after just three years herein lies the concerning side and Grand Theft Auto games for the future with the success of GTA online Rocksteady has really no incentive to focus on DLC or spin-off titles for a single-player component more money can be made of rendering pretty pink t-shirts beanies or penthouse apartment utilizing the base assets of the game and then just selling them it's low risk high profit margin persistent income GTA online is where the money's at to this day the campaign for GTA 5 is pretty much identical to how it was it launched as far as I'm aware no expansions or single player story missions have been added or offered for sale post release but a lot has been added to GTA online as you can expect to capitalize on much easier higher profit margin online content can you imagine how much work and money it would take to create a single player DLC components for GTA 5 the thoughts is mind blowing and the return would be far less lucrative had they just stuck to pumping out online features for real money it's a no-brainer how long will it be before we see a grand theft auto 6 GTA has always been a single player game first and an online game second will the success of GTA online financially impact the way the next game is made perhaps throwing you into a seamless online experience from the get-go online only in promoting real money microtransactions just like GTA online does you could play out the story in game with your friends and build your character up and value just the way you do in GTA online it seems like the perfect financial ecosystem if money is all that Rocksteady is concerned with that is the direction they may go low-risk investments with maximum return that is the concern for the GTA franchise where the single-player components gets sidelined by online services that make Rocksteady just more and easier money or the fact that GTA 6 may take longer for us to get now seeing as how successful and self-contained GTA online is but I'll never forget the ferocious exciting and unsettling campaign to GTA 5 Liberty City or any of the other prior titles Grand Theft Auto is one of my favorite franchises it covers the hard topics it's in your face and it's a whole lot of fun I just hope I'll have those same experiences with the next grand theft auto thanks for watching guys - feel free to share with me your Grand Theft Auto stories
