Is The Cyberpunk 2077 Backlash Justified?
why are so many people out there dismayed at the fact that cyberpunk 2077 is gonna be a first-person RPG instead of a third-person role-playing game behind closed doors CD Projekt RED showed a 60-minute demo to a bunch of industry professionals regarding cyberpunk 2077 the first gameplay demo of this game yeah it was scripted and they did it behind closed doors but still industry professionals got their first look at this game and one of the biggest things that they came away with of course which was the first thing they saw was that the game is in first-person I am fairly confident that absolutely no one in this world actually thought that this was going to be the case of course we thought this game was going to be third-person and of course we thought it was going to be akin to The Witcher 3 at least in terms of how the game looked and how the game played because it's from the same company and really that's their only franchise thus far even CDP are themselves hinted at the fact that this game may be pretty similar see what they did in the past but of course that was all washed away when we got our first look at this game so the game is first-person and they have said it is more RPG than combat oriented so what that means is it's probably going to be more or less akin to a deus ex rather than a action style first-person shooter a wild divergence from what people believed this game was going to be.
I think many people including myself and many many gamers out there thought the game was gonna be basically a cyberpunk rendition of The Witcher 3 and maybe a few bells and whistles on top but of course with the news we got yesterday this is not the case whatsoever this game is gonna be much much different so of course many gamers out there are blowing up they're getting mad because this is not what they wanted they wanted a third-person style game because they wanted to see their character just like Geralt of Rivia and they wanted to experience this new game in the fashion of The Witcher 3 on one hand this is a completely valid desire to want something in a new game that we've experienced in an old game especially if it's from the same game maker and they're not really known for too many game I mean who wouldn't want that that sounds awesome but at the same time it's also discrediting the creative possibilities of an amazing studio of course the problem is that the witcher 3 was such a phenomenal game that it's really really hard to follow in its footsteps do we replicate what we have done and just iterate on what we've already done to give people what they think they want or do we innovate and try something new to expand our horizons and what we are capable of and the latter is what they have chosen to do and I think as gamers we're always going to be divided in what we want and what we do not wants from future games but I think it's in everyone's best interest to allow game makers the ability to be as creative and innovative as possible because it's these games out there that push the industry forward when game makers take chances when they do stuff that's new when they don't repeat and rehash and reuse we're always gonna have critiques we're always gonna have argumentation in this industry we're always gonna have conflict among ourselves and what we want from game makers but in the end why don't we just praise game makers for taking a chance like I said I completely understand people who are maybe hesitant now who wanted that third-person experience in the vein of The Witcher 3 however I've got to put my foot down here and say we've got to give CD PR the room to do stuff that's new and interesting and if they just followed in the footsteps of The Witcher 3 did a third-person style cyberpunk game in that same fashion what is the point of that sure we might get a great game but it would be a game that is reminiscent of memories we've had with another game and I think the best games out there are the freshest and newest and most original ideas coming from game makers who are willing to take that chance I don't know about you guys but I don't want to play a game that reminds me of a different game I want to play a new game that gives me new experiences and new emotions and new ways to view games cyberpunk 2077 actually seems like it's going to do this because they're going to be implementing so many new features that they're not really standard in first-person games especially first-person games that are more RPG than shooter there's gonna be first-person and vehicular gameplay there's gonna be wall running for God's sakes I mean this is new stuff that sounds really exciting and only possible in the first-person version of their game stepping into a first-person game is so much different than playing a third-person video game there's so much more immersion because you are literally playing as that viewpoints you're not playing as a character you are that character because you see through the eyes of that character instead of actually being just some sort of character on the screen this is why there's a character creator this time around because they want you to be that character they want you to be Geralt they don't want you just to play as Geralt I think they're really going after immersion here you know that really punch you in your face style first-person rub noses with the game as the game character kind of vibe instead of just be a character on screen and see things from that perspective the world of cyberpunk 2077 is going to be broken and dirty and gritty and in-your-face the perfect combination for a new perspective so while I completely understand people who are elect man this sucks I want my third person game I want my third person futuristic Witcher game I understand but you've got to consider the benefits of going into first-person especially with the new technology available in today's economy this is not tomorrow wind anymore this is not the original Deus Ex first-person games are not stiff anymore they can be done so well just think about dying like for instance and how movement worked in parkour and verticality in that game I guarantee you those advancements are going to be put forward into cyberpunk 2077 because see DPR is always on the cusp of the latest technology and innovation in their games so for those of you out there who are like oh man this is gonna be a lifeless first-person game this is gonna suck I can't see my character man it's not gonna be like that trust me but at the end of the road I don't want to discount anyone who wants that third-person game or who wants that main character that's not created by you that person that just wanted a futuristic witcher 3 i get you that would have been awesome but the point of this video is to just express the fact that you know what even though we've all got our once and needs as gamers even though we've all got the way we wants games to be made it's in our best interest as gamers to allow game makers out there the freedom and the liberation to do what they think is best for their games not the least of which because we know CD PR can really give us some nice surprises so there it is guys that's why I gamers out there kind of worried about this new direction for cyberpunk 2077 but deep down I think it's a good thing and it's a good evolution for what could be probably the best game of 2019 if this game will ever come out all I know is that I really really want to play this game and I cannot wait to get my dirty dirty paws on it this is probably gonna be one of those I'm gonna call in sick for a week kind of games just because it's so good so don't worry have confidence in CD PR this game is gonna be awesome like what you like but still be open to new possibilities.
